Commendation Ribbon created 11 January 1944; pendant and later Navy Commendation Medal title are the same ribbon lineage. Renamed Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal 19 August 1994. Combat V/C/R devices are not separate ribbons.
Service years and award dates
Years help surface possibilities. A date overlap does not show that someone earned an award. Some date rules describe completion, specific operations or retroactive eligibility, rather than a universal service window.
| Dates | What the source says |
|---|---|
| Dec 7, 1941 – End not specified | Effective qualifying service date; additional award criteria apply. Source ↗ |
