Current DoDM Volume 4 states qualifying joint service after 1 January 1963; this resolves the erroneous 1965 date on AFPC summary. Earliest-day inclusivity remains a minor interpretation issue.
Service years and award dates
Years help surface possibilities. A date overlap does not show that someone earned an award. Some date rules describe completion, specific operations or retroactive eligibility, rather than a universal service window.
| Dates | What the source says |

| Jan 2, 1963 – No end listed (open/TBD) | Qualifying joint service after 1 January 1963; literal after wording represented by next day. Source ↗ |
