The certificate originated 3 March 1847; the physical medal was authorized by WD GO 4 on 11 January 1905. Reinstatement set 22 June 1874 as earliest action date but official Army history documents earlier exceptions. Discontinued by 9 July 1918 act. No simplified complete qualifying-service window is asserted.
Service years and award dates
Years help surface possibilities. A date overlap does not show that someone earned an award. Some date rules describe completion, specific operations or retroactive eligibility, rather than a universal service window.
Service-date coverage for this ribbon is still being confirmed. It remains available in the finder when you enter service years.
