About this ribbon

Establishment 3 March 1971 differs from the qualifying-completion date of 3 March 1972 in the reviewed current AR. On 28 March 1995 the rule changed from four to three qualifying years; periods describe completion dates. ARNG and USAR reverse designs share one service ribbon.

Catalog associations: Army. Current award reference. Branch associations are browsing guidance; other service awards may also appear in a veteran’s record.

Service years and award dates

Years help surface possibilities. A date overlap does not show that someone earned an award. Some date rules describe completion, specific operations or retroactive eligibility, rather than a universal service window.

Listed service periods and date rules
Dates	What the source says
Mar 3, 1972 – Mar 28, 1995	Current AR 4-15a: authorized on completion of four qualifying years with a Reserve Component unit between these dates; the source includes 28 March 1995 in this wording. Source ↗
Mar 28, 1995 – End not specified	AR 4-15b: soldiers completing three qualifying years on or after this date may be considered; reduction is not retroactive. Source ↗

Date coverage is not certified complete. The finder keeps this entry available when listed dates do not overlap.

Research notes and remaining questions

The current regulation's two rule periods both mention 28 March 1995; a site should explain the transition rather than silently eliminate the overlap.
