Original Distinguished Unit Citation established by EO 9075, 26 February 1942; renamed Presidential Unit Citation (Army) 3 November 1966. This Army version shares a blue ribbon pattern with the Air Force unit citation but is catalogued by issuing service.
Service years and award dates
Years help surface possibilities. A date overlap does not show that someone earned an award. Some date rules describe completion, specific operations or retroactive eligibility, rather than a universal service window.
| Dates | What the source says |
|---|---|
| Dec 7, 1941 – End not specified | Extraordinary unit heroism against an armed enemy on or after this date, subject to current Army unit criteria. Source ↗ |

| Dec 20, 2019 – End not specified | Space Force units; separate service-specific earliest eligibility stated in A9.1. Source ↗ |

Presidential Unit Citation (Air Force / Space Force)
AFPC traces establishment to EO 9075 (26 February 1942) and renaming under EO 10694 (10 January 1957). DAFMAN says formerly DUC prior to 1965; this is an official-source naming-history conflict.
Research notes and remaining questions
- Same all-blue ribbon design as Army Presidential Unit Citation; preserve branch authority rather than creating a unique ribbon pattern.
- Renaming date differs between AFPC (1957) and DAFMAN's 'prior to 1965' wording.
