Original plaque established 23 August 1944. The present ribbon emblem was approved in April 1947 and eventually entered supply in July 1966; these are design/issue milestones, not eligibility windows. Criteria include outstanding military services on or after 1 January 1944; subperiods above capture explicit dated rules.
Service years and award dates
Years help surface possibilities. A date overlap does not show that someone earned an award. Some date rules describe completion, specific operations or retroactive eligibility, rather than a universal service window.
| Dates | What the source says |
|---|---|
| Jan 1, 1944 – Sep 15, 1946 | World War II awards: qualifying service units performing outstanding services, subject to minimum duration and operational criteria. Source ↗ |
| Mar 1, 1961 – End not specified | Broadened authorization for qualifying units/detachments supporting military operations under paragraph 7-13b. Source ↗ |
| Sep 11, 2001 – End not specified | Further broadened authorization for exceptionally meritorious performance under paragraph 7-13c. Source ↗ |
Research notes and remaining questions
- The explicit WW II, 1961 and 2001 rule periods are not intended to imply that all service from 1946 through February 1961 was ineligible; exact intervening application requires the regulation and award orders.
