About this ribbon

Public Law 108-234 signed 28 May 2004; Executive Order 13363 establishes medal 29 November 2004. Current handbook dates supersede older October 24 lower-bound summaries.

Catalog associations: Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard. Historical or discontinued award retained for veterans and families. Branch associations are browsing guidance; other service awards may also appear in a veteran’s record.

Service years and award dates

Years help surface possibilities. A date overlap does not show that someone earned an award. Some date rules describe completion, specific operations or retroactive eligibility, rather than a universal service window.

Dates	What the source says
Sep 11, 2001 – Aug 31, 2021	Qualifying Afghanistan operations; current official handbook overall eligibility. Source ↗

Date coverage is not certified complete. The finder keeps this entry available when listed dates do not overlap.

Research notes and remaining questions

Older official pages still mention 24 October 2001 for GWOTEM exchange; do not confuse that with current September 11 campaign period.
